Testing for Glaucoma

During a comprehensive glaucoma evaluation your ophthalmologist will do the following tests and exams:

1.) Measure the inner eye pressure (tonometry)
2.) Inspect the angle in the eye where the iris meets the cornea (gonioscopy)
3.) Inspect your optic nerve’s shape and color (ophthalmoscopy – dilated eye exam)
4.) Complete field of vision Perimetry (visual field test)
5.) Thickness of the cornea Pachymetry

BOTOX®

Maintaining a youthful appearance has become an accepted part of mainstream American culture.

Dynamic lines usually appear between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and at the outside corners of the eye in the “crow’s feet” region and may suggest that someone looks is worried, tired, or angry. An effective, safe, nonsurgical, treatment for dynamic lines is now available.

Botox exerts its effect by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles responsible for the development of dynamic lines.

Following a Botox injection, the muscles gradually become relaxed, allowing the overlying skin to appear smooth and unwrinkled. Untreated muscles are not affected by a Botox injection, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected. The cosmetic denervation treatment is simple and safe.

A tiny microneedle is used to deliver a minute, exact amount of Botox into several locations on the face. Because the needle is so fine and the amount of liquid injected is so small, the pain associated with injections is minimal.

Sedation or anesthesia is not required, and there is no special recovery Period necessary. Mild bruising may occur at injection sites, but they may be easily covered with makeup. The result of the injection usually becomes apparent within 2 to 4 days.


Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty may be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids to lift drooping lids or improve sagging or baggy lower eyelids, making the eyes appear brighter, fresher, and more alert.

Our CO2 laser has revolutionized blepharoplasty “Eyelid Surgery.”

When used to perform upper eyelid blepharoplasty, the laser is used to cut the skin of the upper eyelid so that the excess may be removed. The laser produces less postoperative swelling and bruising, allowing patients a quicker return to work or social activities. The laser skin incisions are hidden within the natural crease present in the upper eyelid and, in the majority of cases, heal without a visible scar.0

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is generally performed from the inside of the eyelid so that a skin incision may be avoided. The laser is used to remove the unsightly “bags” in a quick procedure that does not require stitches. The skin of the lower eyelid and/or face may be resurfaced during the same session.


PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)

PRK (or photorefractive keratectomy) is the second most popular laser eye surgery in the United States, behind LASIK. The question of PRK vs. LASIK is common for consumers interested in laser vision correction. Like LASIK, PRK uses an excimer laser to reshape the cornea. But in PRK, no corneal flap is created with a microkeratome or femtosecond laser prior to the corneal reshaping.

 

PRK also can be performed safely on corneas that may be too thin for LASIK. Since no LASIK-style flap is required, the entire thickness of the underlying corneal stroma is available for treatment. A person who has PRK surgery rather than LASIK will have a thicker residual “stromal bed” after the excimer laser treatment.


Corneal Treatments

The cornea is the eye’s outermost layer. It is the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye. The main function of the cornea is to allow light to pass through the eye to the retina. For this reason the cornea must be transparent. A second chief function is to help focus light, like a camera lens.

The cornea must remain transparent to see well, and the presence of even the tiniest abnormal blood vessels can affect vision. The preservation of your sight is our top priority and our physician can compile a complete picture of your eye health using:
